Work realized during the Italian period. Aref Rayess has been invited to the current edition of the recently opened Venice International Art Bienniale with several of his artworks displayed in the Central Pavilion. The interest of the international market in his artworks is currently increasing sharply so much so that on April 23rd 2024 his work “The world of petrol”, oil on canvas, cm 100x99, 1973/74, set the new record price at Sotheby's in London with € 531,788.00 compared to an estimate of € 69,000/93,000.00. The work at auction was realized during the artist's Italian period between 1959 and 1963, between Florence and Rome while he was returning from Paris where Rayess had the chance to meet many contemporary art masters and enter their studios such as Fernand Léger, André Lhote, Marcel Marceau and Ossip Zadkine. Figures who will radically influence his production.
