“The Triumph of Flora” based on a work by Giambattista Tiepolo (Venice 1696-Madrid 1770). Original owned by Mr. Co. Algarotti in Venice. An artwork of prestigious provenance, coming directly from the Cosattini Family of Udine. It was originally in the collection of the lawyer Giovanni Cosattini (1878–1954)—a socialist deputy, close friend of Giacomo Matteotti, staunch opponent of Fascism, mayor of the Liberation, and ultimately Senator of the Italian Republic. His five children (two sons and three daughters), born from his marriage to Renza Cuoghi, were each protagonists of extraordinary historical journeys. The eldest son, Luigi, a professor of civil law, was among the co-founders of the Action Party (Partito d'Azione) in the Veneto region; later deported to Buchenwald, he tragically perished in Germany during an escape attempt. The other son, Alberto, a lawyer and fellow Action Party militant, served as Ferruccio Parri's right-hand man in Milan during the crucial 1944–45 period, and subsequently as his private secretary during the first post-Liberation government. The three daughters married prominent figures from the Italian anti-fascist intellectual elite: Emilia married Gustavo Volterra, an executive at RAS and son of the world-renowned mathematician Vito Volterra—one of the very few university professors who, in 1931, refused the oath of allegiance imposed by the Fascist regime; Giovanna wed the Turinese engineer Enrico Carrara, son of Professor Mario Carrara (and son-in-law of Cesare Lombroso), another of the rare 'non-swearing' academics; finally, Emma was the wife of Giovanni Enriques, an Olivetti executive heavily active in the Resistance (cf. Sandro Gerbi, I Cosattini. Una famiglia antifascista di Udine, Milan, Hoepli, 2016).
